About the Group:
The Metropolitan Detroit Youth Chorus is a group of young people from the Greater Metropolitan Detroit area who come together for the purpose of providing a musical experience that will encourage them and their hearers in devotion to Christ and Christian principles. The chorus has grown from its original 18 members in 1964 to our current membership of 52 in 2018-2019 Season. Since its inception, members of the church of Christ have served as Musical Director’s and on the Board of Trustees.
MDYC’s annual season begins with tryouts early in September, continues with weekly rehearsals throughout the fall, and ends with a series of concerts at local congregations each week from December through May. The entire concert is signed for the hearing impaired by some of our chorus members. During the spring break, the chorus goes on a nine day tour to encourage and enjoy Christian fellowship in other regions of the country. Over the years MDYC has provided thousands of young people with the opportunity for Christian association on a regular basis. Many of the leaders in our congregations today were once MDYC members.
The chorus is under the leadership of our Musical Director, Half-Time Director and the Board of Trustees, which consists of nine adults, who are committed to providing Christian leadership as they interact with the young people. We realize that the chorus has had its rich history because of the many blessings that the Lord has showered upon us throughout the years. The tour is our outward expression of being the hands and feet of Christ as we travel the country encouraging others through song and service.
